Project Mercury was the first human spaceflight program of the United States, running from 1958 to 1963 with a goal of putting a person in Earth's orbit and returning them safely. The objectives were to test how humans function in space, and recover the spacecraft and crew safely. The project totaled six manned flights and 20 unmanned missions, the most famous of which was the Friendship 7 mission that made John Glenn the first American to orbit earth. Interestingly, this stamp was released the same day John Glenn touched down safely after his mission. The production of the stamps had to be kept top secret, and the boxes containing the stamps weren't allowed to be opened until the mission was considered a success, shortly after splashdown in the Atlantic. Care instructions
Your print will ship in a sturdy triangular tube box. When you receive the package, we recommend unrolling the print and placing it under large or heavy books, while keeping the print in its protective plastic. After 24 hours, the print will be flat and ready to hang or frame.
